Marcel van der Stroom
Lecturer in Law
Marcel originally comes from the Netherlands, but has lived, studied, and worked in Aberystwyth for 6 years before coming to Mauritius, where he taught at several UK universities before finding his way back ‘home’ to AUM.
His legal research interests lie in Public International Law and Human Rights, but are supplemented by an interest in Politics and International Relations Theory, resulting in an interdisciplinary specialism that has led him to teach other areas too. This includes having taught diverse topics at AU’s International Politics Department, as well as social sciences at various colleges.
Before finding his place in academia, Marcel was in the Dutch Air Force, owned a small business, was a city council member, and founded and was active in various NGO’s throughout Europe and the Middle East.
